Lead: Dangers, Laws, and Opportunities – Housing is one of the Upper Valley’s greatest challenges. The low number of available units drives up rental costs, driving many people to older homes that contain lead paint and pipes because they are more affordable. Among the many challenges housing creates from our region’s economy, are you aware that the lead in these older buildings may be poisoning our children, leading to untreatable and costly impacts? Kate Kirkwood will provide information about the health problems caused by lead, the laws around notification and removal, and funding opportunities to remove the lead. She will also discuss the need for more people who are certified to remove lead safely. Right now there are scholarships available for lead-safe practices training and much of the abatement costs can be covered, too. This workshop will focus on Health Problems Caused by Lead Laws On Notification & Removal Funding Opportunities to Remove Lead Lead Removal Certification & Training Scholarships.
